Celebrating Kenneth Leonard Gunawan – Carpenters’ Company Scholar

We are thrilled to recognize Kenneth Leonard Gunawan, recipient of the $10,000 Carpenters’ Company Scholarship, as a shining example of curiosity, creativity, and future-forward thinking. A student at Mastery Charter Thomas and participant in M@CCP, Kenneth has been deeply engaged in dual-enrollment courses that have ignited his passion across multiple fields. He’ll attend Community College of Philadelphia this fall, majoring in engineering with a future as dynamic as his ideas — from biomedical innovation to smart furniture, energy systems, and even interior design. Kenneth is a dreamer, a thinker, and a builder of big visions. He shares, “ACE has opened my eyes to the vast horizons of possibility, where dreams manifest and dormant potential awakens. A forge where curiosity burns brilliant-bright, molding spirit with courage to create and the will to reach beyond.” With a goal of one day creating interconnected systems that make everyday life more efficient for all, Kenneth is already engineering a better world — one idea at a time.
Celebrating Imani Randolph – ACE Scholarship Winner

We’re proud to honor Imani Randolph, recipient of a $2,000 ACE Scholarship, as she begins her next chapter at Howard University, majoring in Civil Engineering. A standout student at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science, Imani is known for her academic excellence and community involvement. She’s not only preparing for a future in construction management and engineering — she’s planning to make history by launching her own Black-owned engineering firm to increase representation and lead with purpose. Imani’s vision is driven by both passion and purpose: “Thanks to ACE, I now feel fully confident I can succeed in an Engineering field.” Her determination to change the narrative for Black women in engineering is both inspiring and necessary — and we are so excited to support her mission. With strength, clarity, and leadership already guiding her path, Imani is building toward a better future for all of us.
Celebrating Yumna Wasif – ACE Scholarship Winner

Join us in celebrating Yumna Wasif, recipient of a $3,000 ACE Scholarship and a rising architecture student at Thomas Jefferson University. A senior at B. Reed Henderson High School, Yumna has long been inspired by the iconic buildings of Philadelphia and New York — and now she’s preparing to shape skylines of her own. With a passion for design and a creative spirit that spans from ceramics to cardboard, Yumna combines artistic flair with architectural ambition in everything she does. She shares, “ACE helped me understand the many careers involved in shaping the built environment and confirmed my decision to pursue architecture to make an impact on the world. It taught me teamwork, design, structure, and professional skills that I’ll carry with me into the future.” Outside the studio, Yumna is also a decorated public speaker and artist, having won awards at both regional and national levels. Her voice, vision, and values are building blocks for the future — and we are proud to support her every step of the way.
Celebrating Olivia Solomon – ACE Scholarship Winner

We’re proud to shine the spotlight on Olivia Solomon, recipient of a $3,000 ACE Scholarship and future changemaker in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering. A graduate of Cumberland County Technical Education Center (CCTEC), Olivia completed four years in the school’s engineering program and is now heading to Rowan University to pursue her dream of working in national defense — with hopes to one day design cutting-edge systems for organizations like Lockheed Martin or the Department of Defense. In her own words, “ACE has given me the opportunity to connect with professionals in their respective fields and see what it is truly like to work in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries.” Olivia’s drive, curiosity, and commitment to service are matched only by her energy — she’s also a competitive runner and pole vaulter! We’re honored to support her journey as she reaches new heights — on and off the track.
Celebrating Elijah Thomas – ACE Scholarship Winner

Meet Elijah Thomas, recipient of a $3,000 ACE Scholarship, whose passion for innovation and hands-on learning is already shaping a remarkable future. A graduate of CCTEC and dual-enrollment student at Rowan College of South Jersey, Elijah is earning both his high school diploma and an associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. With plans to continue his education in Mechanical Engineering, his goal is to become a project manager who brings smart, efficient solutions to life. Elijah credits the ACE Mentor Program for helping him understand the collaborative nature of the built environment: “ACE has helped me to see that those in architecture, engineering, and construction are all pivotal in bringing an idea into reality — and that making mistakes is among the best ways to improve the final result.” From engineering shop class to crafting his own wooden surfboard, Elijah blends creativity, curiosity, and coastal inspiration in all he does. We’re proud to support his next wave of success!
Celebrating Jordan Colon – Carpenters’ Company Scholar

We’re thrilled to recognize Jordan Colon, recipient of the $10,000 Carpenters’ Company Scholarship, as one of this year’s ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia scholarship winners. A dedicated engineering student at CCTEC and the oldest of three siblings, Jordan is paving the way not only for his future, but for those who look up to him. This fall, he’ll be continuing his journey at Kean University, majoring in Architecture with aspirations to one day earn his master’s degree and open his own firm. Jordan shared how ACE has helped sharpen his attention to detail and build skills that will carry him into his next chapter and beyond: “ACE has allowed me to look at small details with greater depth and has allowed me to improve my skills to be ready for whatever my future brings.” We’re proud to support Jordan as he lays the foundation for a bright, bold career in architecture — and we can’t wait to see how high he builds.

BUILD DAY | 2023

Build Day | 2023 On Saturday, June 3rd, the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia will culminate the 2023 program year with a community build day at the Houseman Rec Center. This is the third year that ACE has guided high school students through the design and construction of a project to improve a public space. The Design & Build Project Team has spent months collaborating with many partners to create stunning and empowering lintel murals and door ‘stickers’ to decorate the exterior of the building, and plans to revitalize the entrance plaza pavement, install fence weaving signage, and paint trash enclosure. These efforts will come to a beautiful conclusion at the 2023 Build Day, attended by ACE mentors and students, colleagues from WRT, and Pennoni. Representative from Philadelphia Parks & Recreation will also be in attendance, along with volunteers from Walls for Justice. We are especially grateful to the many families from the surrounding neighborhood who visit the site and have participated in prior years’ activities. We look forward to seeing them again on June 3rd, and giving them an even more beautiful space to enjoy. We are once again calling for volunteers to assist with this year’s project. If interested, RSVP by emailing ace@wrtdesign.com. ACE is grateful to lead sponsor Michell’s, the many partners who collaborated on this project, and all of the volunteers who attend the Build Day on June 3rd. Our mentorship of students interested in the A-E-C industries and our service to Philadelphia neighborhoods is made possible by their support!
