To celebrate MLK Day, the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr through our continued partnership with the Houseman Recreation Center. This marks the third year of an ongoing design-build initiative through which high school students directly engage with local communities and bring about tangible improvements to their neighborhoods.
A team of students and mentors performed minor improvements within the entrance plaza of the site, focusing on maintaining the previous design-build installations of garden beds, picnic tables, and painted playgrounds. Most importantly, the ACE volunteers were eager to engage with members of Houseman programs and the surrounding Oxford Circle. Their hope is to hear firsthand the feedback and vision of the community for whom they are designing the next phase of the project.
The ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia is the local affiliate of a national non-profit organization.
